Gallipoli: Where Australia found it's identity

Gallipoli, a beach in Turkey, is the most famous place in Australia's wartime experience. All Autralians know how important it was in defining Australia's national identity.

There is a great movie about Gallipoli. You can visit this website and see some clips from the movie.

If you haven't seen this movie yet, you should!
If you are from Turkey, I would love to hear your feelings about our shared history at Gallipoli.

It's a Furphy

Here is a great story about Aussie language.

A furphy is a rumour or a yarn. The term was given to us by an Irish immigrant family who settled in Victoria in the 1800s.

Accounts of the precise origins of the term 'furphy' have changed over the years, however. There have been a few furphies within the furphy story.

I've got a website here to teach you all about Aussie slang. Click on the Map Search section on the left of the webpage. Go to region 23 - Melbourne Region. Maybe you can learn a few words that the locals use.
